The Sixth Session of the Working Group on Strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), established by the Ninth Review Conference and chaired in 2022 by Ambassador Leonardo Bencini, is being held in Geneva from 11 to 22 August 2025.
In line with the indicative timetable adopted at the organizational meeting, discussions are focusing on key issues for the implementation and strenghtening of the Convention: cooperation and assistance, scientific and technological developments, transparency and confidence-building measures, as well as verification mechanisms. Additional informal consultations will address assistance, response and preparedness, along with organizational, institutional, and financial arrangements.
Italy is actively engaged in the negotiations, committed to promoting tangible progress towards the achievement of a broad consensus.
