In his statement under Cluster V (other disarmament measures – video) Ambassador Bencini recalled Italy’s commitment to a cyberspace that is open, interoperable, safe, secure and resilient, a cyberspace that respects human rights and in which international law fully applies. Under cluster VII (disarmament machinery, video), he mentioned the results obtained during Italy’s presidency of the Conference on Disarmament, at the beginning of the 2025 session when subsidiary bodies were established in January for the first time since 1996. « We share the frustration of other delegations at the CD not fulfilling its negotiating mandate for many years”, Bencini remarked, adding that “the CD, also by virtue of its composition, remains an irreplaceable forum to discuss sensitive security issues, exchange views and seek common ground. We hope that, by building on what we did this year, we can lay the groundwork for negotiations on certain specific questions to start as soon as external conditions allow.”

The First Committee has concluded its thematic debates and will now move to vote on the draft resolutions.
