Today, a briefing was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to launch the new Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Peace and Security (CAIPS) of United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR). The initiative aims to strengthen international cooperation on the implications of artificial intelligence for global security.
The event provided an important opportunity for discussion on the growing role of AI in the fields of security, conflict prevention, and international governance.
The new Centre of Excellence, based in Geneva, will promote independent research, analysis, and multilateral dialogue, contributing to the development of shared policies for the responsible use of emerging technologies.
Italy, one of UNIDIR’s leading donor countries and a founding member of the Centre, also took part in the initiative, reaffirming its support for the important activities that the Centre will undertake.
Italy’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to promoting a multilateral approach to the governance of artificial intelligence and to addressing the challenges of international security.
