The 14th EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference, organized by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI – Institute of International Affairs), is currently being held in Brussels. The Conference is funded by the European Union within the framework of the activities carried out by the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium.

The event brings together experts from governments, international organizations, and research institutions worldwide to discuss all aspects of the EU’s non-proliferation and disarmament agenda, including arms control, chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, space security, and emerging technologies.

The Conference opened yesterday with a remote address by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, and will conclude today with a speech by the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Under-Secretary-General Izumi Nakamitsu.

Ambassador Bencini delivered a statement during the panel “Biological Weapons Convention at 50: Achievements, Gaps, and the Road Ahead”, in his capacity as former President of the Ninth BWC Review Conference, held in November–December 2022.
