Within the framework of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), meetings of the Working Groups on Effective Treaty Implementation (WGETI) and its related subgroups, Universalization (WGTU), and Transparency and Reporting (WGTR) opened on 16 March in Geneva.
The Arms Trade Treaty is a legally binding instrument that regulates the international trade in conventional arms, with the aim of reducing illicit trafficking and preventing their use in violation of human rights.
The Permanent Mission of Italy to the Conference on Disarmament regularly participates in these meetings, highlighting Italy’s significant efforts to strengthen the overall export control system and to promote broader participation in the ATT.
Some of the conclusions emerging from the Working Groups, whose sessions will run until 19 March, will be submitted for consideration at the 12th Conference of States Parties, scheduled to take place in Geneva from 24 to 28 August.
