As of 1 September, Ambassador Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani has assumed his functions as Italy’s Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
In coordination with the relevant national authorities, the Mission follows and coordinates a range of negotiations concerning existing and future agreements in the areas of non-proliferation, biological weapons, the arms trade, lethal autonomous weapons, the prevention of an arms race in outer space, and other related issues.
The significant political and social implications of these issues also make it important to maintain dialogue and engagement with civil society and with all organisations and stakeholders representing legitimate interests.
