From 24 June to 16 August Italy will lead the WEOG, composed of Western European countries and others with similar political and cultural affinities, in order to ensure full coordination during the current session of the Conference on Disarmament (CD). The rotating presidency of the Conference is currently held by Ireland.
The Italian delegation has organized a first meeting with all WEOG countries to assess the progress of the Conference’s work and define a coordinated approach for the upcoming meetings of the CD in Geneva and the UNGA First Committee in New York next October.
Italy will assume the Presidency of the Conference on Disarmament in January 2025, after more than ten years.
