The Third Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions opened today in Vientiane, Laos.
During the General Debate, Italy’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani, reaffirmed Italy’s full support for the humanitarian objectives of the Convention and for its universalization, highlighting the concrete results achieved in the destruction of stockpiles and clearance of contaminated areas.
The Ambassador also underscored Italy’s contribution to international cooperation, risk education, victim assistance and the integration of environmental considerations into clearance activities.
Italy called for the adoption of an ambitious yet achievable Action Plan, capable of translating political commitments into concrete results for affected communities.
The Conference will continue its work until 18 September.
