Italy delivered opening remarks at a side event organized by UNIDIR to launch a project aimed at developing a lexicon on artificial intelligence applied to international security.

Reaffirming Italy’s strong support for the Institute, of which it is one of the leading donors, the statement highlighted the importance of a shared language in fostering multilateral dialogue, reducing interpretative ambiguities, and facilitating the development of transparency and confidence-building measures.

Italy’s role as a founding member of the Centre of Excellence on AI, Peace and Security (CAIPS) was also highlighted, alongside the hope that the future lexicon will be widely disseminated internationally, including through targeted awareness-raising initiatives.

The project, which will bring together experts from diverse disciplines and geographical backgrounds over the 2026–2027 period, aims to develop a technical and neutral tool that also captures the different interpretations of fundamental AI concepts.
